Gluten free dining

When it comes to eating out, people with coeliac disease often feel short-changed. The situation is improving, thanks to restaurant group Le Bistrot Pierre, which has introduced a full gluten-free menu. We asked a reader to try it out for us. Mike Davidson, 63, diagnosed with coeliac disease 11 years ago, tried the new menu at the Sheffield restaurant and gave it the thumbs-up. “The food was delicious and it was refreshing to be given a menu where I could choose anything, and where the staff didn’t look bemused when I said gluten-free,” says Mike. “Best of all, there was a full dessert menu – it was a treat to have an alternative to the usual fruit salad.” Expect to pay £20-£30 per person for three courses. You can find Le Bistrot Pierre in Derby, Harrogate, Ilkley Leamington Spa, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Stockton Heath and Stratford-Upon-Avon.
